December, 2012 - Both Dax Soule and Michelle Weirathmueller are first authors on manuscripts describing our work studying fin whales that are accepted for publication in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.

June 11-12, 2012 - I am one of the conveners of a workshop on Seafloor Geodesy in Cascadia.

August 22-30, 2012 - Dax Soule and I participate in Leg 4 of 2012 Field Season for the Cascadia Initiative ocean bottom seismometer experiment.

September, 2010 - Michelle Weirathmueller joins my group as an incoming graduate student to study whales. She has a MS degree in Ocean Engineering (acoustics) from UNH.

February 2010 - I give a presentation on "Geophysical Constraints on Magma Emplacement and Storage at Mid-Ocean Ridges" at the British Geophysical Association's meeting on Magma Emplacement and Storage in the Earth's Crust

October 12-16, 2009 - Graduate student Dax Soule presents results from a project to track fin whales with a seafloor seismic network at the 18th Biennial Conference of the Society for Marine Mammalogy in Québec. Download the poster PDF (5 Mbytes).

October 1-3, 2009 - Graduate student Robert Weekly presented further results of the Keck experiment at the Ridge 2000 Workshop on Developing a holistic view of oceanic spreading center processes in St. Louis. Download the poster PDF (9 Mbytes).

August 22 - September 19, 2009 - My group, together with collaborators a the University of Oregon, successfully completed a major tomographic experiment on the Endeavour Segment on the Juan de Fuca Ridge. Several radical Canadian environmental groups cynically tried to stop the experiment through a lawsuits and a barage of misinformation but succeeded only in delaying it by one day. June 21, 2009 - My group together with collaborators at the University of Oregon and MBARI publish a paper in Nature Geosciences describing seismic results from the Keck experiment.

June 12, 2009 - NSF funds a collaborative proposal involving Emilie Hooft and Doug Toomey at the University of Oregon and myself to continue work on the Keck seismic data from the Endeavour Segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge

May 18-22, 2009 - I presented the first results from a research project to track whales with an underwater seismic network at the Acoustical Society of America meeting in Portland.

December 15-19, 2008 - At the AGU Fall Meeting sraduate student Robert Weekly presented further results of the Keck experiment (Read the Abstract) and William Wilcck presented a poster on tidal triggering in the NE Pacific Ocean (Read the Abstract)

September 18-19, 2008 - The UW hosts a RIDGE2000 workshop on intergration and synthesis at the Endeavour Segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge. The meeting converners and committee are William Wilcock, Jim Gill (UCSC), Dave Butterfield (NOAA/PMEL), Deb Kelley (UW), Jim Holden (UMass) and Karen Bemis (Rutgers).

July 1, 2008 - Dax Soule who recently completed a B.S. in Geophysics at Texas A&M University joined my group as an incoming Oceanography graduate student.

March 25-26, 2008 - Keck experiment seismic methods and results presented at RIDGE2000 Mantle to Microbe, Integrated Studeis at Oceanic Spreading Centers meeting in Portland Oregon. Find the Wilcock et al. and Weekly et al. abstracts in the meeting Abstract Volume.

October 30, 2007 - Keck experiment earthquake soundtrack used during John Delaney's 2007 Fall Provost Distinguished Lecture. You can listen to the soundtrack.

July 31-August 31 2007 - Keck seismic network successfully recoverd from the Endeavour segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge during a student cruise on the R/V Thompson with the remotely operated vehicle ROPOS. Check out the cruise website.
