Underaduate Students
I regularly involve undergraduate students in my research both by teaching organized classes that allow groups of students to participate (see for example the 2007 cruise the Endeavour segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge or the 2004 Friday Harbor Research Apprenticeship class) and by employing individual students within my lab with support from my research grants and the UW's Washington Space Grant Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP).Tami Ben Zvi obtained an M.Sc. working on tomographic data from Deception Island. Her work is described on my Deception Island
Opportunities
At present I have funding for an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) student to work on microearthquake data from the Keck microearthquake experiment. The project would involve learning and applying modern techniques to locate earthquakes and interpret the results. I am looking for a motivated UW undergraduate who is available to start on this project in the Winter quarter and who would continue through the Summer in the UW's Washington Space Grant Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP). Contact me if you are interested in learning more about this project.
